Delta Zeta was founded on September 1st, 1928 at the University of Louisville after merging with a local sorority Phi Sigma Theta . Charter Members of the Beta Gamma Chapter: Linda Boyd, Elizabeth Freeman, Katherine Lewis, Dororthy Marattay, Elise Postdam, Winona Albrecht, Naomi Sengel, Ester Ritter, Jean Allen, Edna Scott Johnson, Elinor Parker, Dororthy Whitlatch, Agnes Mead, Eleanor Holmes, Margarite Threlkel and Jean Wood.
Since the time of our founding at U of L, Delta Zeta has been one of the strongest sororities at the university winning awards, year after year, for outstanding leadership on campus. In addition, Delta Zeta has won many awards on a national level including the DZ Council Award given to what is considered the #1 DZ chapter in the nation.
Delta Zetas have been involved in all campus organizations during their history. From serving as the Vice-President of the Student Government Association to members on the Lady Bird's Dance Team….DZs have made their mark on U of L's campus.
Delta Zeta currently occupies their beautiful home and sorority house at 2104 Unity Place. This has been home to DZ since 1973 when they moved from Second street. In 1986 DZ was the first to totally renovate their current home to accomodate live-in members. The chapter house was again renovated in 2005 to add a sprinkler system unit to the house; at this time, the house again, received a complete renovation. Due to the work that has been done to the house over the past two decades, Delta Zeta's house has been considered one of the nicest greek houses on U of L's campus.
